2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Squirrel Nut Zippers most celebrated and commercially successful album Hot, which sold over 1.3 million copies. In celebration, the band’s visionary creator Jimbo Mathus and founding member Chris Phillips, have crafted a new stage show with singer Ingrid Lucia of The Flying Neutrinos. Other leading New Orleans musicians also collaborate to deliver the band’s unique musical flavor.
The Squirrel Nut Zippers' music – a fusion of Delta blues, gypsy jazz, 1930s-era swing, and other styles – was an essential part of the 'Swing Revival' period of the late 1990s. Their hit single Hell helped to propel swing and jump blues music back into popular culture.
“It’s not easy to categorize the music of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, except that it’s hot.” —NPR, Morning Edition
